Keeping score

We-ll.

Of the month of March:

  • I only wrote and posted one poem
  • I didn’t lose any weight
  • I did pretty good on the “quantifiable successes” issue (setting definable goals).

Mostly it’s a success; the “quantifiable successes” thing is a bigger issue than the other two. For April, I plan to lose the 5 pounds I didn’t lose in March, and to put up new poetry every -Monday-. Also, by the end of April, I expect to have the shop completely moved to the garage and set up, and {hopefully} some beads made. It looks like I need to set some more parameters, though, just saying “i want to build a castle” doesn’t give the path to the end result. So here I am; I want to “journal my points” for my meals, and drink the five glasses of water that weightwatchers recommends. On Saturday, April 5, I’ll be either working on the house or on the yard, depending on the weather.

Overwhelmind Odds

The plan for tomorrow is to clean out the garage. Wish me luck. It’s a mess. Well, obviously, otherwise I wouldn’t be cleaning it. It’s supposed to be beautiful tomorrow, which makes it hard not to go take pictures. But I’m determined to clean clean clean. And I don’t plan to attack the garden without a wheelbarrow. The one my momz gave to me a year and a half ago has a flat tire and I can’t figure out how to replace the thing. And I’m tired of using the yellow recycling curb carrier thing to hold dirt to be moved.

Maybe this is the year the compost works :)

Spring Plans

Spring has arrived again, and with it, the SOLV Oregon Beach Cleanup. It’s April 5, and that’s a saturday- but I don’t see myself getting to the beach before 10AM to help with this. I think it’d be a good cause, and I’m sure my child would like it, and (gee-darn) it would be a good excuse to go to the beach, but I’d want to leave the house by 7:30 or 8AM to be in Seaside by 10AM. And I don’t see that happening. :(

But I do expect to be cleaning the garage soon, as well as weeding the garden beds in the next few weekends. I’m taking signups for those projects now. :)

Peeps

Daria, over at KNRK is hilarious. This is her first radio gig; she’s been doing it for approximately eight years. When she started at KNRK, she worked with the delightful Mike Chase, who has since moved to KWJJ.

Every morning at about seven fifteen, Daria does what should be an “entertainment” blurb- that is, what on a normal radio station would be a “what bands are in what clubs” sort of thing. Only KNRK and Daria do it differently. Daria has an extraordinarily dry sense of humour, and a real knack for storytelling. Today she told the story of Max and his war against the Peeps. Max’s real name is Thor Maximillian, and his brother’s name is Zeus Tyrone (he goes by ‘Ty’). To give you a sense of the irony of the situation, the boys were named Thor and Zeus; and their younger sister was named Jennifer Amber. I think that sets the stage admirably.

Peeps are little marshmallow chicks, dusted in a crunchy sugar topping. They’re terribly cute.

I’m not going to retell the story that Daria told. Let it suffice to say that Max hated Peeps with a passion, and used the destruction of Peeps every Easter to torment his sister Jennifer. He didn’t get peeps of his own- because his parents knew how much he hated them, so he had to steal his sister’s.

Which reminds me of Cybelle, Van’s daughter. Keith and I used to torment her- probably for the same reason that Max tormented Jennifer; the satisfying shrieks. Frequent and repeated spankings were no deterrent.

Anyway, I think Keith knew Ty in high school. I vaguely recall his mentioning Ty’s original name.

Denied

I removed the posters from the sidebar. They are cool, but they didn’t fit the tone of my page. If one were a t-shirt, I’d probably wear it only to cause a ruckus. If I had a poster of one (especially the Ashcroft is Watching one) I’d hang it in the living room, where I could provide explanations. But being right out in front, it doesn’t give me time to secure my position before (you readers) folks get offended and riled. :)

So, in short; great posters, not for my outside.

Upgrade Imminent!

Just a heads-up. Sometime before Monday, I plan to spend some time upgrading the B2 code underlying the site. I’ve been looking into trackbacks and I suspect there’s a better image uploading script (more integrated with the b2 system. I’m running b2 version 0.6 pre, and the up to date version is 0.62.

So if you come by before Monday, and the site appears to be snafu’d- check back in a little bit. I won’t break it completely, I promise.

Is it Spring yet?

Well, first, you may notice the posters off on the left- yes, they’re random, and I thought they were funny/clever. And pointed. You can click on ‘em to go to the site where you can buy them (and some other stuff- these were just a random assortment.)

Spring is coming around; on the ‘route, I can hear birdcalls, even when it’s still dark. There’s flowers blooming, and I can smell cut
grass, turned dirt, and something that smells remarkably like dead fish. I suspect it’s some sort of fertilizer. It’s kind of neat, when it’s not raining, that I can smell these things in the dark. There’s some other smells too- one house consistently smells like burned meat and garlic, even from the street. Mostly, I like the smell of some tree or something that reminds me of tealeaves. Of course it’s not tea; I don’t think tea grows here, but it smells ‘silvery’ and ‘dry’ like sticking my head in a jar of … earl grey? I don’t remember- I’m associating the tree-smell with a fragment of memory of the summer I worked in the Yamhill marketplace in downtown Portland at a coffee and tea shop (not Coffee People, this was earlier).

You have a nice day now, y’hear?

Long Weekend

It’s been a long weekend. I was at work yesterday, of course, but Saturday found me driving to Pendleton to visit our Grandmother. She’s unhappy- she’s not feeling well. We continue to be concerned for her. But Sunday I was back home. I had big plans for this weekend; big plans, I say. But they sort of fell aside for Saturday.

Usually my plans for the weekend are for Saturday. It’s because Sunday’s so rough on me; papers are too big, and I’m too much of a whiny weenie. I just feel drained on Sunday. But I really wanted
to get some big plans done this weekend. So I knuckled down and moved my desk into the basement.

We’ve been discussing it for quite some time. As part of the Remodelling project, as well as sort of a reclamation project, and because the basement is cooler than the upstairs, I wanted to move my desk downstairs. It took a long ethernet cable, and about three hours of moving crap, but it’s mostly done. I think the cats are happy to see someone down there- even though it means that someone’s down there and it’s not such a “cat zone.” The child loves it, and we’ve brought the dogs down every night too (which is good for Honor’s leg- it’s still weak and the stairs are tough, and bad for her breath- the catboxes are down here and they have no cover).

Next weekend I move the crap around in the garage. Go me. If I get it all worked out right, the garage will be clean and the shop will be moved into the garage, which will put all the tools together and will make the current-shop room “just storage.”
