Thanks for helping, I think

posted in General |

Trying madly to catch up at work, I was laying on the couch last night, propping the nice warm laptop on my belly. I admit, this is not the most safe way for me to work. The thing I’m working on has some underlying timed events; every five minutes or so a process runs. I’m trying to work with the process; so I upload my files, make my changes, and then wait.

About four minutes later, Ms B turns to Miss B (they’re over at the computer desks) and asks “Is your father asleep?” Miss B slowly turns, gazes at me, I gaze back at her with my eyes wide open, and she reports this. Her mother goes on; “Oh I didn’t hear him typing or anything over there, I thought he might be asleep.”

Mom, he’s thinking. It takes him a while.

    Nice.

Why is Ms. B…Ms. B and not Mrs. B…since she is married to you. Ms. B I get.

Ms B seems to prefer it, and it (MS) was introduced to me in High School as the ‘newerfangled prefix’ for women, where it didn’t matter (or I didn’t know) if they were married or not. I very rarely use Mrs. (hey I save a keystroke!)

It’s actually similar to my hatred of people judging my mother because her spouse is a woman. A single man is Mr, as well as a married man- when a man gets married, he doesn’t have to raise a flag regarding his marital status. But when a woman gets married and takes on the Mrs, she’s being labelled as ‘married.’ Judge Ms B on herself and her own merits- don’t judge her because she’s married to me. Just like my mothers- judge them on the basis of their persons and not the fact that they’re married to each other.

We work very hard to keep our marriage equal. I made her buy me an engagement ring too. And don’t make me remind you of the headache we’ve given Portland Public Schools with our last names. ;)

Sorry. Didn’t mean to offend. Just curious.

I’ll bet the last name thing is a headache.

You didn’t offend. My flippant answer I typed yesterday offended :).
