Miss B was the flower girl at my Sister In Law T’s wedding this past weekend. We took a bunch of pictures, and none of them will be posted; she’s in a gorgeous gown, her hair is up, she’s got makeup on, and she looks poised and confident. Not the sort of pictures I want my eight year old in on the Internet. But I was showing her some of these pictures yesterday.
“I’m growing up,” she said.
Yes, you are, honey.
“You should be scared. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.”
At which point Mrs. B turns to me and says “She’s so obviously your daughter.”
Sigh; when did my daughter turn out to have such a sense of humor?
Note: Ok, ok, here’s a picture.

Most of my friends and family have heard me say “Thank heaven we had girls.” My daughters are awesome. And I, to be honest, was a complete meathead, at least until I met the great Marianne, who would routine tell me that I was being an asshole. In public. In a whiny new york nanny voice, which wasn’t her usual tone. For instance, my brother swears that I beat him up. A lot. I have to take his word for it, because I don’t recall it that way, but I remember some specific things I had done that were just mean. Another instance? I took a pack of my dad’s cigarettes, set them up like logs in this huge golden glass ashtray and set them on fire. I never smoked my dad’s cigarettes, but I burnt a lot of them. When I did this particular misdeed, it cracked and broke his ashtray. “Uh, no dad, I don’t know what happened…that’s amazing.” I often wonder, even now, what he thought when he came home and his cigarettes were missing and the house was filled with smoke.

This one may be more craptacular, however.
AOL Time-Warner is making available videos of many of the performances of the Live-8 concerts. Alas, if you’re using Firefox (as all right-minded sane, thinking folk are) you’re SOL. And furthermore, it requires a special AOL video viewer. I’m sure if you’re really attached to it, running IE and their viewer won’t kill you. But if it does, remember, it’s against my normal urges to suggest it for you, please don’t sue me.

The BBC is releasing four productions of Beethoven’s symphonies (6,7,8,9) for free download. They’re testing the waters for music downloads. Look, free music! So nyaaah, RIAA, take that!
