Playing Dress-Up
posted in General |I brought Miss K upstairs while I worked; I wanted a change of environment and wanted to get away from the television. Besides, it’s almost naptime. She’s wandering around the upstairs playing with various things, actually leaving the animals alone. She’s in a good mood. I’m in the library, a short hallway away from the living room.
Suddenly, a shriek rings out!
She doesn’t sound hurt, I didn’t hear a crash. I think she’s struggling with something. I give her about a minute of shrieking at whatever isn’t cooperating and then track her down (it isn’t hard, she’s still yelling.) I come out to the living room and find her taking off her shirt. Well, ok. I’ll let her. I’ll even help her. “Now honey, is that better? Let me know if you get cold.” (I routinely talk to the 15month old as if she can understand adult language). She toddles off and I go back to my laptop and couch combo. A few minutes later, she comes back and hands me her pants. “Uhh, ok.” And then with a heroic wrench she pulls off her diaper.
Naked Ninnies!
I let her run around naked, and then she brings me back her diaper. And I put it on. Remarkably, she stays still while I put it on her- I don’t have to wrestle with her. Then I put on her pants. She’s still happy. Then she brings me a clean dishtowel she fished out of the linen closet. What am I supposed to do with this? I pin it to her like a little cape, horizontally so she doesn’t trip on it. Then she brings me back her shirt, which I discover has a wet sleeve (she was playing in, err, the dog water bowl, you know, the one with the constant supply of fresh water). I put it on her anyway, and she starts yelling at me. So I take it off her and go get her a cute short sleeve shirt. That one stays on, go figure.
She was looking over my shoulder as I found her second shirt. Now she’s in the bedroom yelling at the dresser because she wants its treasures and it’s not complying.
