This is very interesting. I think it's true that, in "your day," kids went to TAG because they did have special talents. But I don't believe that there were special-talented teachers to guide them in their creativity. That's a public school issue. I think it is possible to encourage a kid's ability to think outside the box & to experience their creativity. It seems more likely to happen in private schools where there are better quality teachers, more resources, & smaller classrooms.

That's why I think it falls to us, the grandparents, to help our grandchildren explore all the possibilities that public school can't.

My question to you (& not as a criticsm at all) is how will you help your daughter learn to want something more from life when those behaviors aren't role-modelled for her at home. Just telling her she is great & is doing well isn't enough. And, certainly, as you probably know, rewards won't do it either. Smart & motivated aren't the same issue.
Do you have some thoughts on this?

I still think you are doing a splendid job raising my granddaughters. I've always said you were smart because you were smarter than I was in many ways. First of all you are my son & all children are smarter than anyone elses. But also because you learned faster & were able to come up with creative solutions to situations you encountered as a child.
