I'm really clear with my daughters that meat is from animals. I don't think either one has actively selected "that fish, there (pointing) " to eat, however :) I was impressed with the level of honesty to Iris that it shows, and I was reminded of the discussion of "using the threat of santa not coming as behaviour modification" that I saw on the scrapbooking forums.</description>

The revelation about the origin of meat was not prompted by anything.  It was something I explained to her spontaneously, as soon as I thought she was old enough to understand.

The timing of the blog post was prompted by last week's episode in her class, in which I was unable to convince her classmates that meat came from animals.
