I have to stick up for the client :) It's not just a case of having suffered the Dooce fate once already; he is genuinely a good guy. He's generous, trusting and creative. He's also very "particular." As he put it- he's put too much time into his designs to see them screwed up.

At the end of the day, my commitment to his project and his timeline dictated that we look for another person to do the design part of his site. I'm too slow and not exact enough.

Thanks for commenting :) I know you weren't bashing the client; I'm just feeling protective.

Maybe the phlebotomist moonlights as a designer.

I feel your pain re. the contract. Expectation-setting is hell on a good day; it's infinitely worse when you're forced to take on chunks of work that were outside your original scope. My former life as an IT project manager is flashing before my eyes as I consider what you're currently going through.

FWIW, I like your philosophy of development. Something tells me every contractor this guy works with doesn't come back for round 2.
