– god.
What is with you people? Isn’t it enough that Incomprehensible Twit Palin has a chance to be the President of the US in the next four years? Isn’t it enough that Bush has given himself the authority to delay the elections? Isn’t it enough that for the first time ever, an active army unit has been assigned to “Army North” in order to support homeland security measures? Isn’t it enough that the Republican “maverick” has voted with Bush’s policies 95 percent of the time?
This past week, thousands of copies of the anti-Muslim propaganda piece Obsession was spread throughout Ohio ( a swing state ) through newspapers and through the mail. Friday night, while 300 Muslims were in church celebrating the end of Ramadan, some (expletive deleted) sprayed a hand held canister of “chemical irritant” into the room where babies and children were playing and waiting for their parents. Someone tear gassed their daycare!
McCain’s supporters were distributing the DVDs; a group called the “Clarion” group. Well, I have a clear, bugle call to the “Clarion” group- your DVD has encouraged terrorism by Americans against Americans. I hope that McCain denounces you and that you lose any support you might have gained.
Tear gassing toddlers! I’m astounded!

So, the DQ is 11, and in 6th grade. Do you suppose it’d embarrass her too much if I made these cute little “witches on a stick” snacks for her to take in her lunches? I’d offer them to Ms B for her lunches but I suspect she’d consider them a waste of a perfectly good hershey’s kiss.

“Omigod omigod omigod omigod!!!”
This was the loud response of the DQ when she read that Rick Riordan was coming to town. He’s an author; he’s written the Percy Jackson series.
Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon, and as a half-blood ( half mortal, half god, like Hercules ), he’s one of the focus points of a huge battle between the gods. But more immediately, he needs to live through school, and wend his way amongst the broken pickets of a love interest with the grey-eyed daughter of a certain other god ( wink wink nudge nudge know what I mean? ). The books are action-packed and interesting, not the least because Greek Mythology is one of my favorites.
Anyway, he’s doing a lecture for the library, “Percy Jackson and New York” or something on October 13, and then a book-signing. The DQ squealed. That was fun.

I’ve been listening to Seth Godin’s “Small is the new Big” — and one of the things he riffs on about is that our culture of “overwork” where we’re putting in 12 or 16 hour days leads us to a position where we don’t make good ( or any ) decisions. Which is also a symptom of depression.
Correlation or Causation?
Do these two things have a similar symptom or are they connected in some more sinister fashion?

I may have maligned their coffee in the past. I like local companies, and Ladybug Coffee is almost directly across from Starbucks in beautiful downtown St John’s. I bought their coffee once, and it was a to-go cup of fairly tasty coffee but the cup, alas, wasn’t meant to live as long as the coffee. It broke apart. I wasn’t happy.
Now, I’m waiting on the mechanic to fix the chevy’s catalytic converter, and sitting here is a much finer experience. Beatles and Talking Heads and Tom Petty on the radio, lots of outlets, free wifi, and couches and kids complete the scene. It’s actually pretty nice. It’s big and airy like the Daily Grind.

The TT is a cutie. You can see that from pictures of her. But I brought her home from the sitter’s and she insisted that I play with her. I, on the other hand, was more interested in laying in front of the fan, preferably with a cold towel on my belly.
So she decided to play “cats.” She was a fierce hunting cat and I was… ok, I admit, I was a dead cow, laying on the bed, I mean savannah, in front of the fan, I mean breeze.
She wrapped me up in her story so completely I had to tickle her.

Thank you for using the “universal fit” cat converter on the car. It halved the amount of money I had to give you. Now I can afford brakes.

Something’s not working. This feels as bad as when I left cowboyz.
Obviously I’m not making the right decisions. The decisions to leave cowboyz and get counseling were prompted by my realization that I wasn’t making the right decisions and to listen to other people’s suggestions or encouragements.
This is an open statement to the universe. Tell me what I’m doing wrong. Please.

Generally, after my 1:00 meeting, I go upstairs to hang out with the dogs and keep them company. I know Perrin likes it. Miss K stayed home today because she’s getting over the croup again, and I’m finding more books in my lap than laptops. Sometimes it’s hard to get a four year old to understand when I’m working and when I’m not.
I’m glad books like “Beasty Bath” don’t take too long to read. But then I have to figure out how to divert her to another project while I get some “issues” resolved.
